CHANGE OF HEART epi 6

Mr. Harrison left Dr. Jacob’s office at half past four. Victoria sat at her desk, messages in hand. She stared at the doorknob to her bosses office.

She thought about her husband Daniel. She thought about the patients she had encountered that day. Finally, Victoria thought about herself. She had asked for a sign that day in the break room. She had wanted guidance of some kind, or maybe permission. Victoria realized the only person she needed permission from was herself. She gathered up the notes she had written and knocked softly. She heard Dr. Jacobs tell her to come in. Victoria opened the door and stepped inside. Her expression was different, and Dr. Jacobs asked if she was alright.
“Yes,” she answered, “I think I’ll be just fine.”
She took a deep breath, thinking of what she told Andrew Morris.
“I have come to a decision. Today I was reminded how short life is. I realized I needed to walk towards my dreams.”
Dr. Jacobs was quiet and seemed to study her. Victoria glanced down at the messages she was holding. She saw what she had written about her conversation with Jamie Dunbar.
“There are many things in this world I can’t control,” Victoria continued. “I understand that, but I must take control of my own life. I must help myself.” She felt tears welling up but refused to let them fall. “I’m afraid I must give you my resignation, Dr. Jacobs. I will miss you, and your patients, and I appreciate everything. The time has come…” Victoria glanced down at the last message. She had told Mr. Gordy to do what was right for him. “The time has come to do what’s right for me,” she finished.
“I understand, Victoria, but you will be sorely missed,” Dr. Jacobs said. “I would never discourage anyone from following their heart.”
